The Chase commences at 7:30 pm in Coronation Park, Oughtibridge, with a circuit of the park, proceeds uphill by road to Wharncliffe Woods, loops through the woods on compacted gravel tracks and finishes back in the Park. The distance is approximately 6 km with 180 m of ascent. The Junior Chase is approximately 3 km with 100 m of ascent (shorter route in the woods). The route is on grass (Park), pavements / road (Station Lane) and compacted gravel tracks (driveable by vehicle in Wharncliffe Woods). Marshalls are positioned at major junctions (road and woodland tracks) and minor junctions are signed. Backmarker runners follow the last competitor on both courses and complete the course. The event is held under UK Athletics Rules, (Trail Running Association Permit), and is organised by members of Penistone Footpath Runners & AC with support from members ofrnOughtibridge Gala Committee. The annual event has run since 1975 and was completed in 2022 by 85 competitors and 26 in the junior chase.
